About the Role
Join our team as a Tissue Sample Preparation Technician (Histology Technician), where you’ll help prepare and process samples for scientific research. You’ll learn hands-on skills like tissue slicing and staining, maintaining lab equipment, and organizing supplies in a clean, safe environment. No prior experience? No problem! We offer training, making this a great role for someone eager to start a career in science and lab work.

 

To perform this job successfully, the individual is required to perform, but not limited to the preparation of quality tissue samples for histopathologic evaluation; identification of tissue samples for proper embedding orientation; microtomy skills; performance routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining procedures; knowledge of the use and maintenance of equipment used for the preparation of tissue samples and the ability to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.

 

What You'll Do Here
• Maintains and documents the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Maintains a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment
• Performs paraffin tissue processing
• Identifies required tissue sample orientation and performs paraffin embedding procedures
• Uses microtomy skills in the preparation of routine (paraffin embedded) microscopic slides according to standard operating procedures and/or required by study protocols
• Performs routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining as well as cover slipping microscopic slides
• Troubleshoots equipment and/or operation failures and takes appropriate actions to keep interruptions to a minimum.
• Analyzes raw data collection and solves for deviation in standard operating procedures (SOP) and/or protocol requirements
• Disposition of hazardous chemical, generation of the hazardous chemical lab pack and data entry to the laboratory hazardous chemical records
• Ordering of warehouse supplies and data entry to laboratory inventory records
• Additional training pertaining to tissue trimming and bone decalcification
• Additional training pertaining to special necropsy procedures

What You Need to Succeed
• Associates degree specializing in science preferred
• 1+ year laboratory experience and/or training
• HT (ASCP) eligible within one year of employment
• Basic computer software skills, MS Office Suite required
• Proficiency in English including speaking, reading, and writing
• Basic math skills for the preparation of reagents
• Ability to troubleshoot basic laboratory equipment
• Continual GLP training
• HTI Personnel Training and Qualification Matrix
• Identification of tissue organs and/or tissue samples
• Microtomy skills
• Routine hematoxylin and eosin staining
